  • What is the difference between FPC and PCB hard board?

Regarding FPC soft boards, also known as flexible circuit boards, they are actually a type of printed circuit board, but there are significant differences from traditional printed circuit boards. Therefore, they are referred to as FPC soft boards, also known as flexible circuit boards. FPC generally uses PI as the substrate and is a flexible material that can be bent or flexed arbitrarily. FPC soft boards are usually used for links that require repeated bending and some small components, but now it's not just that. Currently, smartphones are considering bending prevention, which requires the use of FPC soft boards as a key technology.

PCB is the so-called printed circuit board, usually referred to as PCB hard board, which is the support body in electronic components and is a very important electronic component. PCB hard boards usually use FR4 as the substrate, also known as FR4 circuit boards, and cannot be bent or bent. PCB hard boards are usually used in places that do not require bending and have relatively hard strength, such as computer motherboards, mobile phone motherboards, etc.

In fact, FPC soft boards are not only circuit boards that can be bent, but also important design methods for connecting three-dimensional circuit structures. This structure, combined with other electronic product designs, can build a variety of different applications. Therefore, from this point of view, FPC and PCB are very different.

Of course, FPC soft boards can be connected through terminal connections, but they can also be used to avoid these connection mechanisms. A single FPC can use layout to configure many hard boards and connect them. This approach reduces connector and terminal interference and can improve signal quality and product reliability. For PCBs, unless the circuit is made into a three-dimensional form by applying film adhesive, the circuit board is generally flat. Therefore, to fully utilize three-dimensional space, FPC is a good solution. In terms of hard boards, the current common space extension solution is to use slots and interface cards, but FPCs can create similar structures as long as they are designed with adapters, and have more flexibility in directional design. By using one piece of FPC connection, two hard boards can be connected into a set of parallel circuit systems, and can also be turned into any angle to adapt to different product shape designs.
